KUCHING: Up-and-coming national women’s doubles pair, Low Zi Yu-Nuraqilah Maisarah Ramdan, got their Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) campaign off to a flying start after qualifying for the Round of 32 with two dominant group stage wins in Ningbo, China yesterday.
The Malaysians brushed aside Macau’s Ng Weng Chi-Pui Chi Wa 21-11, 21-10 in 24 minutes before maintaining their momentum with a 21-9, 21-13 victory over Thailand’s Phattarin Aiamvareesrisakul-Sarisa Janpeng in their round-robin match-ups.
The wins put the duo in a strong position in Group D to advance to the main draw, where they are set to meet Taiwan’s world No. 8 pair Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu in the Round of 32 tomorrow.
The pair have continued to impress, building on earlier results that include a runners-up finish at the World Junior Championships and a maiden senior title at the Estonian International.
Their BAC debut marks another step forward as Malaysia looks to strengthen its women’s doubles depth with a new generation of players pushing through.
