KUCHING: A total of 10 homestay owners in the Singai cluster of Bau received their National Homestay Certificates from the State Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, the homestay owners must come out with unique and attractive products to attract visitors to their premises.
“The local fruits, livestocks and other surrounding facilities such as the National Park and Bung Bratak are products that can attract visitors,” added Ik in his speech when officiating at the Singai Homestay National Certificate presentation ceremony held at Badul Homestay in Kampung Atas, Singai, yesterday.
He pointed out that marketing and promotion strategies were vital to introduce the products and packages to the outside world.
“A website can help to promote the products and packages locally and also internationally,” he said.
Ik also pointed that he wanted the Singai cluster to organise a unique Gawai celebration next year.
“A RM5,000 grant will be given to each of the homestay owners involved for the Gawai packages next year and also to help them provide local traditional food for the tourists.
“If successful, the Gawai celebration will become a yearly event for the Singai cluster,” said Ik, adding he would be discussing the event further with all the 10 homestay owners.
Also present was the State Director of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Suriya Charles Buas.
