MUKAH: Nearly 1,000 cartons of drinking water have been sent to six longhouses in Ulu Sebakong, providing relief to communities affected by the ongoing dry spell.
A total of 992 cartons were distributed on Wednesday (Sept 2) under a multi-agency drought response operation, with Mukah police providing personnel and a lorry to transport and distribute the supplies.
The distribution began at around 11.30am and covered Rumah Richard Kilat Madang, Rumah Remy Buda, Rumah Jimbau Layang, Rumah Sendri Senabong, Rumah Rimong Kilat and Rumah Seri Asin.
Of the total, 212 cartons went to Rumah Remy, 108 to Rumah Jimbau, 196 to Rumah Sendri, 252 to Rumah Rimong and 224 to Rumah Seri.
The aid effort was carried out in collaboration with the Mukah Social Welfare Office, Mukah District Office, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the Tellian Constituency Service Centre.
The assistance comes as Mukah grapples with hot, dry and hazy conditions, with the Department of Environment (DOE) recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 200 as at 5pm Wednesday, placing the district in the ‘unhealthy’ category.
Despite the hazy conditions, the distribution proceeded smoothly and safely, with no untoward incidents reported.
The multi-agency effort reflects continued support for communities affected by the dry spell, particularly in ensuring residents have access to essential supplies during the challenging conditions.
Mukah police said it remained committed to assisting communities during emergencies and disasters, particularly in safeguarding the welfare and basic needs of residents affected by adverse weather conditions.
