KUCHING: A total of 1,000 dancers participated in the Kuching Festival Mass Folk Dance Display 2017 representing 45 folk dance organisations from Sri Aman, Miri, Mukah, Sibu, Bintulu, Bintangor, Saratok, Singapore, Taiwan, Brunei, Johor and Sabah.
Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in his speech when officiating at the Kuching Festival Mass Folk Dance Display 2017 at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium, Jalan Padungan, here last Sunday night said his ministry wanted the people to perform a massive Sarawakian dance to be recorded in the Malaysia Book Of Records (MBOR) at the Kuching Festival next year.
He proposed the event as more people in the state are interested in mass dancing activities to fill the field as more dance associations have been formed throughout the state.
Dr Sim was confident that more local folk dance associations would be interested to participate in the record-breaking effort for the most popular Sarawakian dance to be held simultaneously following the increase in the number of associations and dancers participating in the Kuching Festival Mass Folk Dance Display 2017.
“There are also members of the association who learned the Sarawak’s dance moves by their own from last year’s video footage, so I recommend the video footage of the dance being performed tonight be uploaded on You Tube to enable more people in the state to study and participate in the event next year,” he said.
He added that the move would not only help to promote mass dancing activities for the locals but also in line with the suggestion of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg who emphasised the use of digital technology in our daily life whether economic, social and cultural.
