KUCHING: A total of 104 small-scale farmers in the Pantai Damai constituency received agricultural input assistance worth approximately RM1 million today (May 17).
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the assistance, provided through the Agricultural Facilitation Fund (AFF) programme, is part of the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.
He said the agricultural inputs provided would help ease the small-scale farmers’ financial burden in managing their farms and plantations while also helping to increase their production output and income.
“I hope that the assistance provided can be fully utilised to increase farm production, thereby helping to boost the income of farmers and their families,” he said.
He said this in his speech when officiating the Agricultural Input handover ceremony under the AFF programme for the Pantai Damai Constituency at Dewan Masyarakat, Kampung Telaga Air, here today (May 17).
Dr Abdul Rahman added that the Sarawak Government remains committed to strengthening the agricultural sector, as it plays an important role in the people’s economic development and the state’s food security.
For this reason, he said, the government continues to channel various forms of assistance and support to the people, especially rural communities, to ensure the agricultural sector continues to grow and benefit society.
“I hope programme participants will continue to improve their skills and make full use of the assistance provided to further develop their agricultural ventures,” he said.
