14-hectare bush fire breaks out behind Jepak flats

BINTULU: A bush fire covering about 14 hectares broke out behind the Marine Flats in Jepak here today (Apr 11).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 1.26pm and deployed personnel from the Bintulu station to the scene, about 5km away.

Firefighters used a tanker and hose lines to contain the blaze, focusing on creating a firebreak to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential areas.

A total of nine personnel were involved in the operation.

No casualties have been reported.

At press time, firefighting efforts were still ongoing.
