MERADONG: Approximately 143 hectares of land here have been approved for paddy cultivation, to be jointly developed by Onemas Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA).

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the initiative goes beyond a typical agricultural project, positioning itself as a key catalyst for local economic growth.

“I hope this effort will drive the development of the agricultural sector across Bintangor and Meradong, particularly in modern paddy cultivation and related industries, ultimately positioning the area as a leader in modern agriculture,” he said.

He made these remarks during a press conference with a delegation from Wuhan University on Friday (Apr 10) as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

At the same time, Ding expressed hope that continuous research and development (R&D), including seed improvement and the adoption of new technologies, will benefit more smallholders through higher productivity and increased income.

He also revealed that the team from China has visited Sarawak more than 20 times to date, reflecting their strong commitment and sustained interest in the project.

“I am confident that the combination of advanced agricultural technology from China, collaboration with local institutions, and strong support from all stakeholders will ensure the successful implementation of the seed development and paddy cultivation project,” he said.

Ding said any issues arising during the course of the project can be channelled through relevant representatives or directly to him, so that they can be brought to the attention of the government for further action.

“I hope that the project will yield results in the near future, benefiting not only Onemas Agriculture and LCDA, but also the wider community in Meradong and across Sarawak,” he added.
