MIRI: Police have seized 16 motorcycles and issued 45 summonses in a late-night crackdown on street racing and traffic offences in the city.
The operations, led by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters, was conducted from 11:00 pm on June 27 until 3:00 am on June 28.
Checks were carried out in Bandar Miri, Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Canada Hill Road and Jalan Senadin.
District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said 38 people, comprising 32 men and six women, were inspected together with 35 motorcycles.
He said the 16 motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Among the offences detected were riding without a licence, illegal structural modifications, loud exhausts, missing side mirrors, no number plates, and the use of “fancy” registration plates.
Farhan said police would continue to take firm action against those involved in street-racing activities that threaten road safety and public order.
He reminded road users to comply with traffic laws, avoid unauthorised modifications and report any street-racing activity to the police.
