MIRI: The Borneo Fittest, Southeast Asia’s premier functional fitness competition drew 200 athletes from across the region during the recent event held here from Dec 3 to 4 last year
The competition was hosted at Kelab Rekreasi Petroham, which saw the athletes taking part in five events from a combination of functional and weightlifting movements and workouts.
The event was proudly partnered by Tourism Malaysia and Cuti-Cuti Malaysia as its main event partner, along with several corporate sponsors including Wah Tung Travel & Tours, Amigo Hotel, Standard Issue, Jens Gear and SoSole.
The Sarawak Obstacle Course Racing Association, the event’s organiser was delighted with the increase in athlete turnout compared to the inaugural event in Kuching in January 2022 and hoped to see the competition become the region’s top functional fitness event in the years to come.
There were a total of six categories — Men’s Elite, Women’s Elite, Team Elite, Team Open, Men’s Open and Women’s Open with cash prizes sponsored by Wah Tung Travel & Tours.
Darren Chai won first place in Men’s Elite, followed by Mikka Yap and Timothy Ng while Nina Juna was the champion in the Women’s Elite, followed by Christie Chong and Sohee Jo.
The podium winners for the Men’s Open category went to Hozaifa Dawoud, Lau Hui Siong and Johnny Gian Chu. The Women’s Open witnessed Stephanie Chok taking first place, followed by Hadwah Latif and Siti Zulhyah Sahan.
As for the team category, Kolo Mee won the podium followed by Team AP and Sabah Mayhem whereas for the Open category, Team SC was in first place, followed by Gnt Double JJ and Team Lekker.
