KOTA SAMARAHAN: Some 2,000 participants took part in the Sarawak Belia Samarahan Run Ride 2026 in conjunction with Sarawak Youth Week 2026 at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre today (Aug 16).
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), attracted participants from Kuching, Samarahan and Asajaya through two open categories — a 5km run and a 20km cycling event.
The event was flagged off by MYSED Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at 6.50 am, following an aerobics session which began at 6 am.
The running event started and ended at the civic centre, while cyclists covered routes around the Samarahan district.
The strong turnout reflected the growing interest among youths and the local community in sports and healthy lifestyles, while also providing an avenue to strengthen community ties.
In addition to the Run Ride, participants and visitors also took part in various interactive activities, including darts, carrom, slingshot, eSports, Youth Wall Climbing, tug-of-war and futsal.
