KUCHING: The success of Karnival Sukan LANDAS (LASSCAR) 2026 could pave the way for a similar sporting event involving agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the proposed MUDeNR Sports Carnival could provide another platform for staff from agencies under the ministry to strengthen cooperation and team spirit.

“God willing, I believe we can plan early and organise the MUDeN Sports Carnival,” he said when officiating the LASSCAR 2026 closing ceremony at Penview Convention Centre, here last night (Aug 15).

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, said LASSCAR provided an opportunity for staff from different divisions and agencies to strengthen relationships, build confidence and learn to work together towards a common goal.

“These are the qualities we must carry into our daily work and official duties,” he said.

He added that the Land and Survey Department played an important role in Sarawak’s development agenda, including land surveying, planning and implementing development projects across the state.

“The teamwork developed through sporting activities could therefore contribute to the department’s effectiveness in carrying out its responsibilities,” he added.

He also linked the experience gained through LASSCAR to the department’s preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, saying the Land and Survey Department had been entrusted with responsibilities involving accommodation, transportation and the management of Thailand’s national contingent.

“This is a platform for us to see how we can manage a sporting event involving other countries.

“With our experience and high level of commitment, I believe we will be able to carry out the duties and responsibilities entrusted to us,” he said.
