SIBU: Twenty-three people were injured after a sightseeing bus was involved in a self-inflicted road accident at the Kanowit Roundabout in Sibu Jaya.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call about the incident at 2.25am this morning (Aug 31).
According to the operation commander, 43 people were on board the bus when the accident occurred.
A total of 23 victims were injured, comprising 19 women and four men.
No one was trapped in the vehicle.
A team of six firefighters from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters helped remove a female victim who was still inside the bus and moved her to a safe area.
The remaining 42 passengers had been assisted out of the bus by members of the public before the arrival of the firefighters.
All the injured victims received initial treatment from the medical team at the scene before being sent to Sibu Hospital and Kanowit Hospital for further treatment.
