KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has called on Sarawakians to strengthen unity and uphold the spirit of patriotism in conjunction with National Day 2026.
In his National Day address, Wan Junaidi said the celebration should serve as an opportunity for Malaysians to reflect on the meaning of love for the country, appreciate the sacrifices of previous generations and be grateful for the peace, stability, harmony and wellbeing enjoyed today.
He stressed that patriotism should not be confined to celebrations and symbols, but must be reflected through a sense of responsibility, loyalty to the nation, respect for diversity and a willingness to contribute to society and national development.
Wan Junaidi also urged Sarawakians to safeguard the harmony that has long been a strength of the State, while embracing the diversity of races, religions, cultures and backgrounds as a source of strength in building a united and respectful society.
“In facing an increasingly challenging and complex world, unity and the spirit of togetherness must continue to be strengthened because the future of the country is determined not only by development achievements, but also by the strength of relationships among the people, the integrity of community values and the willingness to place common interests above differences,” he said.
Wan Junaidi said National Day should also be a time for Malaysians to renew their commitment to strengthening unity and rekindling their love for the country.
“Let us make this National Day a point to renew our determination, strengthen unity of hearts and rekindle our love for the homeland. With the spirit of togetherness, mutual respect and shared responsibility, we can continue to build a peaceful, stable, progressive and prosperous Malaysia for present and future generations,” he said.
He expressed hope that the spirit of patriotism and unity would continue to flourish among the people and serve as a source of strength for Malaysians to move forward with confidence, solidarity and hope towards a better future.
Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, also extended their National Day 2026 greetings to all Sarawakians and Malaysians.
