LAWAS: Thanks to the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply System Project (SAWAS), the water issue at Kampung Kalampun here has been effectively resolved.
With the completion of the RM3 million project, village folk now can enjoy 24-hour treated water supply.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the project was under the jurisdiction of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) which was allocated RM2.8 billion to resolve the treated water supply issue statewide.
The allocation is meant for projects to be implemented in “stressed areas” including raw water source, treatment plant, distribution system, replacement of piping system as well as initiative to upgrade rural water supply.
“All together, not inclusive of projects that are under implementation, 38 projects involving a total allocation of RM134 million, are being planned for this year.
“SAWAS is a strategic water supply system that enables the state government to provide clean and treated water supply to its rural populace,” he added.
Also present were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Water Supply Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang, JBALB director Chang Kuet Shian and Limbang Resident Ahmad Denney Ahamd Fauzi.
