KUCHING: The district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division seized 26 motorcycles and issued over 350 summonses in an operation dubbed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ last night (Mar 1).
The operation, conducted along Jalan Lapangan Terbang from 10.30pm until 4am this morning, involved 28 traffic police members.
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the team conducted inspections on 182 individuals from 10 cars and 168 motorcycles.
“Of the figure, police confiscated 26 motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for having modified vehicle structures and for further inspections.

“In addition, the team also issued a total of 396 summonses against motorists for various traffic offenses,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Farhan urged motorists to drive and ride responsibly, refrain from illegal street activities, and avoid modifying vehicle structures.
They should also avoid gathering by the roadside, which can cause traffic congestion and noise that disrupts public order.
He added that the carelessness of drivers or motorcyclists can endanger both the offenders and others.
