BALIK PULAU: The male teacher who allegedly slashed his wife in an incident at their home in Taman Tunas Muda, Sungai Ara near here last Wednesday is on remand for six days starting today.

Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the remand order against the 30-year-old suspect was issued by the Balik Pulau Magistrate’s Court to facilitate investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

According to police, the teacher is believed to have acted out of stress from bank loan debts and e-commerce instalment payments.

Preliminary investigations revealed the argument between the couple stemmed from financial issues, but the suspect had no dealings with loan sharks.

In the incident around 6 am on Wednesday, the teacher reportedly slashed his wife on the neck before injuring himself with a knife in the couple’s bedroom at Taman Tunas Muda.

The pre-dawn incident was discovered by the victim’s mother, who heard her daughter screaming from the upper floor of the two-story house.

She went upstairs to investigate, saw the victim being pinned down, and then pulled her off the bed to save her. – BERNAMA
