SIBU: A total of 305 houses in the Pelawan constituency have received repair assistance under the Minor Rural Project – Poor People’s Home Improvement Programme (MRP-PPRMS).
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the project involved a total allocation of RM4.5 million over the past four and a half years.
“The main objective of this programme is to immediately address highly critical housing repairs, where we focus solely on providing this service to the low-income group.
“In line with my government’s vision, I have always prioritised efforts to reach out to families from this group,” he told reporters during a working visit to inspect MRP-PPRMS improvement projects involving six houses here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tiang informed that there is still a remaining implementation period of six months, along with a balance allocation of RM500,000 to be utilised.
For the next phase, he plans to implement a more comprehensive approach by considering assistance for registered Pelawan voters residing outside the constituency area.
“Previously, we received instructions stating that the funds could only be spent within our own constituency area.
“However, I believe I have a responsibility to serve my registered voters who happen to live outside the constituency boundaries, but are still in great need of this assistance,” he said.
