KUCHING: An intensive police dragnet over three days has sent a clear warning to drug offenders in the district, with 41 people rounded up and illicit substances worth over RM15,000 taken off the streets.

‘Ops Tapis Khas Kontinjen Sarawak’ saw the district police headquarters intensify enforcement to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse from Jan 4 to 6.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu said five suspects were detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while two were arrested under Section 39A(1).

Two others were held under Section 12(2) of the same Act, and the remaining 32 individuals were picked up under Section 15(1)(a) for drug abuse.

“Police also seized a substantial haul of drugs during the operation, comprising 121.02g of methamphetamine, 248.10g of MDMA powder, and 9.80g of Erimin 5 pills.

“The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM15,532,” he said.

The successful operations was the result of sustained intelligence-gathering and cooperation from the public.

Alexson assured that police will not compromise with anyone involved in drug-related activities as possession, trafficking or protection of drug-related activities constitutes a serious offence under the law.

Members of the public with information on drug crimes are urged to report them via Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) hotline at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-5929211.
