MUKAH: A total of 42 Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) projects have been implemented in the Mukah Division to date to improve housing facilities and basic infrastructure.

According to a report by TVS, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the initiative aims to provide planned housing and better basic amenities, particularly for low-income groups.

“The SPK programme and resettlement schemes have been implemented since the era of the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to help low-income groups and squatters obtain legal, safe, and comfortable residential plots,” he said.

He made the remarks while officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tellian Tengah Village Expansion Scheme Phase 1 here, as well as the handover of the Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette (Agriculture) under Section 6 and land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, held at CENTEXS Mukah today.

Awang Tengah added that, to date, a total of 53 housing development projects have been implemented in the Mukah Division, including 42 SPK projects and 11 resettlement scheme projects in the Dalat, Daro, Matu, and Tanjung Manis areas.

“Some projects have already been completed, while others are still ongoing,” he added.

Although development costs for each lot can reach up to RM150,000, the state government continues to enhance specifications by constructing paved roads, concrete drains, and complete basic facilities to ensure a better quality of life for beneficiaries.

Additionally, he said that to ease the burden on the people, the state government has reduced land premiums and allowed payments to be made in instalments.

“The selection of recipients is carried out transparently by community committees at the divisional and district levels to ensure assistance is channelled to those who are truly eligible,” he said.
