SIBU: A total of 500 participants successfully obtained motorcycle licences through the Class B2 MyLesen Programme 2026 for the Pelawan constituency here today.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said that the programme, which was implemented through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Ministry of Transport and the Road Transport Department (RTD)) in collaboration with the Pelawan N.54 Service Centre, reflects the government’s commitment to helping the B40 and low-income groups.
He said that the initiative provides opportunities for eligible participants to obtain a legal motorcycle licence, thus opening up employment opportunities especially in the logistics and transportation sectors.
“Having a valid driving licence not only allows a person to legally travel on the road, but also increases their chances of getting a job and increasing household income,” he said when handing over the licences presentation ceremony held at SMK Sacred Heart Centennial Hall here.
Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, also reminded the recipients not to misuse the licences obtained by engaging in illegal racing activities or riding dangerously.
“A driving licence is not a licence to break the law. It is a trust and responsibility. Use the licence to help your family, travel safely and earn a decent livelihood,” he said.
He said illegal racing and dangerous riding activities were still a concern even though the authorities were constantly enforcing them.
Therefore, he stressed, all road users must prioritise safety and obey traffic rules.
According to him, road safety not only depends on good infrastructure, but also on responsible attitudes among drivers and motorcyclists.
He also called on RTD and the police to continue to strengthen enforcement efforts in line with the government’s aspiration to reduce the death rate due to road accidents by 50 per cent by 2030.
Also present were State RTD’s Deputy Director, Mohamad Faizal David Jemat, RTD’s Sibu Branch Head, Jelapin Entalai, representatives of local government agencies and community leaders.
