679 affordable housing units completed under HDC projects

The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government has successfully implemented a total of 12 projects comprising 679 units of affordable housing across Sarawak with a total ceiling allocation of RM147.97 million.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been allocated a ceiling sum of RM105 million in 2026 for the implementation of 12 physical projects.

“The projects involve 1,052 affordable housing units across Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang and Lawas including two non-physical projects namely Grant for Mutiara Mortgage and Credit and issuance of Strata Title,” he said.

He said in his ministerial winding up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 19).

He added that under the People’s Project initiative, HDC has successfully implemented four projects comprising 154 units of Rumah SPEKTRA Permata (RSP).

“These consist of 62 units at the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) Santubong, 50 units at SPK Hulu Kabong, 20 units at SPK Tian, and 22 units at SPK Igan, with a total ceiling allocation of RM69.2 million.

“HDC also allocated a ceiling of RM36 million in 2026 to implement a total of 276 units of Rumah SPEKTRA Permata (RSP) comprising 50 units in the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) Gedong, 100 units in SPK Sambir, 47 units in SPS Limbang, and 79 units in SPS Banting, Lawas.

“All four projects are currently on-going,” he added.

Additionally, he said that since the year 2021 up to April 2026, the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) Selection Committee has approved 7,302 applications involving a lock amount of RM35.36 million.

“Of these applications, 4,720 are from Kuching, 1,214 are from Bintulu, 952 are from Sibu, 213 are from Samarahan and 203 are from Miri.

“The overall approval also includes 581 students from higher education institutions and 124 applicants from Sarawak and Federal Civil Service occupying government quarters,” he said.

He added that the Terms of Reference for SRAS in 2026 have been enhanced, including an increase in the monthly household gross income eligibility limit from RM4,556 to RM5,504.

“It also extends the maximum assistance period from three years to four years and expands SRAS coverage to five additional districts, namely Serian, Siburan, Sri Aman, Betong, and Mukah,” he added.
