MIRI: Seven motorcycles were seized and 55 traffic summonses issued during an overnight police crackdown on illegal street riding and traffic offences across several areas of Miri.
The operations, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters, ran from 11 pm on Saturday (Sept. 19) to 3.30 am this morning (Sept. 20).
Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the operations covered Miri city centre, Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Canada Hill, Piasau, Pujut, Tudan, Tanjung Lobang, Taman Tunku and Taman Jelita.
Police checked 27 individuals, comprising 24 men and three women, as well as 20 motorcycles during the operations.
Seven motorcycles were seized under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while 55 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
The offences included riding without a driving licence, unauthorised structural modifications, modified exhaust systems producing excessive noise, missing side mirrors, absence of registration plates and the use of non-compliant or “fancy” registration numbers.
Farhan said police would continue enforcement against individuals involved in illegal street riding and other activities that could endanger themselves and other road users.
He also urged motorcyclists to comply with traffic regulations and refrain from making vehicle modifications that do not comply with approved specifications.
