MIRI: Police issued 71 traffic summonses after inspecting just 38 motorcycles during a five-hour enforcement operation targeting road rage and traffic violations in Taman Tunku, here.

The operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri district police headquarters (IPD Miri) from 5pm to 10pm on Sunday (Aug 16), covered the Taman Tunku residential area, Jalan Taman Tunku and Jalan Taman Jelita.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal and dangerous motorcycle activities that could endanger road users and disrupt public order.

Police checked 52 individuals, comprising 45 men and seven women, together with the 38 motorcycles.

Among the offences were riding without a driving licence, unauthorised structural modifications, modified exhaust systems producing excessive noise, missing side mirrors, motorcycles without registration numbers and the use of non-standard or “fancy” registration plates.

ACP Mohd Farhan said police would not compromise with individuals involved in road rage and traffic violations, warning that such behaviour could put both the riders and other road users at risk.

He urged motorcycle riders to comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles were maintained within the specifications approved by the authorities.

The police chief also called on members of the public to provide information on suspected illegal street-racing or dangerous motorcycle activities to IPD Miri or the nearest police station.
