IPOH, Perak: An elderly man lost RM1.9 million to a phone scam after he was contacted by a suspect impersonating a police officer.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, said the victim, 78, lodged a police report on Saturday (Sept. 5), claiming he had been intimidated by the fake police officer who convinced him that he was involved in an investigation.

“The victim was instructed to follow the orders given till he transferred his money to unknown parties,” he said in a statement on Saturday night, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He also reminded the public that the police would never instruct anyone to transfer money into certain accounts for investigation purposes. – BERNAMA
