MIRI: A two-night multi-agency crackdown across Miri has resulted in 87 traffic summonses, the seizure of seven motorcycles and two arrests over suspected methamphetamine possession, highlighting the breadth of enforcement efforts targeting crime and public order offences in the district.
The operation, involving 85 personnel the Royal Police, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Miri City Council (MCC), was conducted on Sept 18 and 19 across key areas including Miri city, Permyjaya, Lutong, Tanjung Lobang, Miri Airport, Bekenu and Batu Niah.
Police said 20 motorcycles were brought to the Miri Traffic Police Station for further action, with seven subsequently seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The operation also targeted illegal street racing, unauthorised vehicle modifications and other traffic-related offences.
In a separate enforcement action during the operation, two suspects were arrested and 0.60 grammes of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine was seized.
Authorities also extended the crackdown to entertainment premises, with six establishments in Miri and Batu Niah inspected over the two nights.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department took action against premises suspected of selling untaxed alcoholic beverages, while MBM issued compounds of RM3,000 each against premises found operating without entertainment licences.
The operation also involved joint patrols, roadblocks and inspections at public gathering points and other locations identified as potentially vulnerable to criminal activity.
The scale of the operation reflects a coordinated approach by police, federal enforcement authorities and the local council to address multiple categories of offences in a single operation.
IPD Miri said enforcement operations would continue to be conducted in a focused and sustained manner to curb criminal activity, strengthen compliance with the law and enhance public safety.
The police also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between enforcement agencies and the community in maintaining public order and confidence.
