MIRI: A total of 92 out of the 182 Chinese primary schools (SJKC) in Sarawak have been equipped with smart classroom facilities as part of efforts to accelerate digital education transformation in the state.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said digital technology in classrooms was no longer an option but a necessity to prepare students for an increasingly technology-driven world.

He said the Sarawak Government, together with the Sarawak United Association of Aided Chinese Primary School Boards of Management, would continue expanding the initiative to schools that have yet to receive smart classroom facilities.

“The Sarawak Government, together with the Sarawak United Association of Aided Chinese Primary School Boards of Management, will continue working to expand the implementation of this initiative so that more schools can benefit from digital education in the future,” he was quoted as saying in a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

He said this when launching the smart classroom programme at SJKC Chung Hua Krokop here today (June 25).

Dr Sim said education remained one of the Sarawak Government’s key priorities in developing future-ready human capital.

He said the state government continues to invest in education alongside infrastructure and economic development to ensure the younger generations have access to the best learning opportunities.

Meanwhile, Pujut assemblyman and Miri Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang, said SJKC Chung Hua Krokop was the only school in Miri selected to receive four sets of smart interactive whiteboards and integrated teaching units under the programme.

He also said the school had received more than RM700,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for various upgrading works, including improvements to classrooms, the school hall, teachers’ office, library, paved roads and the drainage system.
