SPAOH: A total of 94 longhouses in the Bukit Saban constituency have received Minor Rural Project (MRP) aid to strengthen grassroots development and improve the wellbeing of rural communities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the MRP assistance covered two key components, namely contributions to Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and longhouse Women’s Bureaus, to support community-based programmes and local development initiatives.
He said this when speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony here today.
Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, said more development efforts are in the pipeline, including oil palm and pepper cultivation projects aimed at raising rural household incomes.
Additionally, he said that the government has also provided RM5,000 for each longhouse ‘pintu’ to fund home improvement works and enhance living conditions.
Meanwhile, Betong Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Richard Rapu expressed hope that the MRP assistance channelled to recipients would be fully utilised to implement various community activities benefiting residents in their respective longhouses.
Also present were Betong Division Resident Datuk Richard Michael Abunawas, Betong District Officer Laga Kueh, Spaoh Administrative Officer Denny Lim and Betong District Council Secretary Lister Clement Guwie.
