KUCHING: The Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) urged the state and the federal government to identify what had caused the recent flood and to implement appropriate measures to the problems.
SPA Secretary David Xavier Hii Chin Loung said this in a statement today following the flood situation which happened on Thursday.
“The floods have caused damage to properties, homes and even destroyed crops. It will also disrupt economic processes and businesses,” he said in the statement.
“People may be stranded for hours during their commute and will affect them emotionally,” he added.
“The floodwater is also dirty water which may bring about diseases and possibly contain unknown chemical substances,” said David.
He further stated that the SPA is deeply concerned with the flood issue, urging both the state and the federal government to address the issue which has caused grave inconvenience for Sarawakians.
“Last January, floods were caused by the continuous heavy downpour which lasted for days.
“It seemed like it has gotten worse as the recent flood occurred from only a day of heavy downpour,” he stated.
“This is a major issue which requires the immediate intervention from the government as it also affects the livelihood of every people,” he added.
Members of the SPA and the public have also reported about their experience to the association about the inconvenience caused by the floods– such as submerged roads, water intruding homes and damaging personal belongings.
On Thursday night, heavy rain occurred in Kuching, Samarahan, Serian and Lundu which had caused several locations to flood.
