

KUCHING: Hope Place yesterday received a call from a public member Suriana Haji Adenan requesting to help a disable single mother.
Gloria ak Goodurinie is a single mother, aged 42, who, aftering suffering from a stroke three months ago, has been fed through a tube. Her right leg has been amputated due to her being diabetic. She is also having bedsore problem.
“When we arrived at Gloria’s residence, her daughter Elicia informed us that her mother (Gloria) had been suffering from high fever for three days; she didn’t know what to do and where to get help. Immediately we called ambulance that came to take Gloria to the Sarawak General Hospital,” said Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan yesterday.
Elicia takes care of her mother alone. She works as a cashier and only earns RM1000 monthly. Their house rental is RM 230, not including water and electricity. Elicia therefore cannot afford to buy special milk “Nutren Diabetic” and adult pampers (L size) for her mom.
Gloria needs two tins of Nutren Diabetic per week with each tin costing RM90 to RM100.
Hope Place is without any Nutren Diabetic milk in store and needs help from public, said Kelvin.
He also stated that Hope Place carries out its aid deliveries once every three months because of the many families on its recipients list.
Currently it supports more than 200 families.
