KUCHING: The national Department of Chemistry has confirmed that no pig DNA or porcine was detected in the frozen squid ring samples as claimed by a consumer in a post that went viral on social media recently.
Federal Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the results came from samples sent to the department.
He said his ministry’s Enforcement Division conducted inspections and investigations into retailers, wholesalers, distributors and importers in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Johor Bahru.
“As a result, several products were seized along with several business documents for further investigation.
“Subsequently, from the results received from the Department of Chemistry, no pig DNA was detected in the samples (seized products),” he reassured on Wednesday (March 16).
“KPDNHEP would like to advise consumers to be careful in disseminating information, especially on social media, including halal-related issues because it can cause unnecessary concern among the public.”
