Longhouse construction loan increases to RM30k per door

KUCHING: Starting this year, the state government has allocated an RM50 million annual interest-free loan for the construction of longhouses.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) news report, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil claimed the number has increased from last year.

“Successful applicants will receive RM30,000 instead of the previous RM15,000 for one longhouse door.

“This interest-free loan is to relieve the villagers’ burden in obtaining building materials for the construction of their longhouses,” he said last Saturday at Rumah Salin Abong, Sungai Selulit, Sebatang Bok in Tinjar.

Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman, also urged all community leaders to work with any government department or agency to make things easier.

During the event, Penguang also handed over minor rural project (MRP) funds to several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Marudi constituency including RM20,000 to Rumah Salin Abong village development and security committees (JKKK), RM5,000 (Rumah Salin Women’s Bureau, RM 15,000 (Rumah Marcus Minggu JKKK), RM30,000 (Sg Entulang JKKK), RM15,000 (Rumah Aji Sg Tuyut JKKK), RM15,000 (Rumah Budin Asam Paya JKKK), RM20,000 (Rumah Jantan JKKK), RM10,000 (Bakong Ideah Community Association) and RM15,000 (Ng Seridan Tinjar JKKK).

Also received the cheques were SK Long Jegan Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) (RM10,000), Agnes Ngarega Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Rumah Lua Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Rumah Paberi Magelit Women’s Bureau (RM20,000), Rumah Hillary Tawan JKKK (RM20,000) and Rumah Anai/Sulutan JKKK (RM10,000).

In addition, SK Sg Selepin PTA (RM10,000), Kampung Long Jegan Atas B Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Sg Sebatang Bok Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Sg Kelabit Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Rumah Unggak Bukit Tepekong Women’s Bureau (RM5,000), Rh Lua JKKK (RM15,000) and Kampung Loagan Bunut JKKK (RM10,000) also received their funds.
