SIBU: Police have arrested a local man suspected of being involved in uprooting several gravestones at the Al-Qadim Muslim Cemetery here yesterday.
The incident has caused a stir among the Muslim community.
Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a report from a 39-year-old man around 1.20pm claiming that his father’s headstone had been uprooted.
Following the report, police picked up a 49-year-old suspect around 3pm from the cemetery.
The suspect is currently under remand to facilitate investigations under Section 297 of the Penal Code for trespassing on burial places.
The issue went viral on social media.
