SIBU: Nangka constituency will have a new satellite town as the budget for the project has been approved in the recent state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting.

Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the approval of the project.

“In the 2023 Budget Speech YAB Premier approved in Initiative 3 (Intensifying Urban Renewal Programme), Article 51(10) Bandar Baru Nangka which will be established in the Sivilculture area of Jalan Oya with an area of 292 acres,” he said in his Facebook post today (Dec 2).

The Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development pointed out that the new township would accommodate various infrastructures.

“The new town will be accommodated with 773 housing units of which 453 are affordable housing units, primary and secondary schools, and others,” he said.

Dr Annuar said that the new project would become another satellite town in his constituency besides the one in Kemuyang.

Apart from the new Nangka satellite town, Kampung Datu Sibu redevelopment, Kemuyang, and Sibu affordable housing development were also listed under the same initiative for Sibu alongside other projects throughout the state.

Abang Johari during the recent DUN sitting said that all the projects are currently ongoing and at various stages of implementation.

A total of RM42.5 million will be provided for all the projects in 2023 to intensify the implementation of the urban renewal projects.
