SIBU: Lanang MP Alice Lau Kiong Yieng has urged housewives to register themselves under the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR).

Lau, who is also Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, said the scheme provides social security protection to housewives against domestic accidents and invalidity while managing the household.

“A lot of housewives are still in the dark that there is this SKSSR. This scheme is very necessary for them as it is a kind of protection.

“Applicants of the scheme need only to pay RM120 one-off. Meanwhile, for employees, I advise you to continue to contribute to SOCSO,” she said in her speech during the SOCSO Sibu benefit presentation to three recipients at Rumah Kiding, Nanga Salim here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sibu SOCSO manager Dundang Undong said a total of 4,008 housewives, who registered with the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) i-Suri programme, have registered for the SKSSR which started on Dec 1 last year.

“SOCSO is still collaborating with several departments to attract housewives to contribute. So far, we have collaborated with several uniformed departments that have many prospects such as wives of military and police personnel.

“We have gone to meet with the commander of the 9th Brigade, the General Operations Force (PGA), the police, the hospital, and the Unity Department, many more will be done or met after this.

“We will make a public explanation by opening a counter for the registration process,” he said when met by reporters after the ceremony.

Also present was Sibu SOCSO deputy manager Micheal Blayong.
