Over 1,000 expected at Raspberry Pi forum

KUCHING: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development will be organising the Raspberry Pi Forum in July this year.

Minister Datuk Roland Sagah said the forum would be held in conjunction with the ministry’s Science Week.

“The Raspberry Pi Forum is a programme extension to the project of supplying Raspberry Pi computers to all primary schools in Sarawak.

“This forum aims to provide a platform for teachers especially the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) teachers to exchange views and ideas related to the use of Raspberry Pi computers in the classroom.

“At the same time, it is also a platform to exhibit student innovation projects based on Pi. Over 1,000 teachers and students are expected to participate in this forum,” he said.

He said this in his welcoming speech during the handover of the administrative building project and upgrading of the SK Merpati Jepang academic school building on Wednesday (March 22).

His speech was delivered by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development II Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

Sagah disclosed that the ministry was also planning to organise a Sarawak School Leadership Conference in May this year.

He said the conference was targeting approximately 400 school leaders including principals, headmasters, headmistress, senior assistants from the Northern Division of Sarawak.

“We are planning to cover all parts of Sarawak through a series of upcoming programmes,” he said.

Sagah said the state government and the ministry hoped such programmes can provide additional impacts on the educators.

He said this would contribute to improvements in terms of leadership, organisational management, curriculum and co-curriculum management and students’ affairs among others.

“These programmes will facilitate in the teaching and learning process as well as student development.

“Moreover, this is in line with the state government’s vision to produce high quality and competitive human capital,” he added.
