KUCHING: Police here arrested a man suspected of sexually harassing a woman by stopping her car and kissing the windscreen along Jalan Kampung Rampangi on Monday (May 8).
Earlier, a 21-second video clip went viral on social media around 4 pm the same day.
The video recorded by the 26-year-old victim, showed the suspect riding his motorcycle close to her car and harassing her while she was heading home.
The victim can be heard crying and pleading with the suspect to leave her alone. The clip showed the suspect kissing the victim’s car windscreen before he left the scene.
Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the police received a complaint from the victim which led to the suspect’s arrest around 7 pm on Monday.
The suspect’s motorcycle was also seized by the police.
“We have opened an investigation paper under Section 509 of the Penal Code (for insulting the modesty of a woman) and Section 28 of the Sarawak Minor Offences Ordinance 1957 (disorderly conduct in public).
“If convicted, the suspect can be jailed or fined or both,” he said.
Merbin said the suspect has two previous records related to drugs and property crimes.
The suspect is said to be mentally unstable and is undergoing psychiatric treatment at the hospital.
The police chief appealed not to speculate on the case since the case is still under investigation.
He said the case will be referred to the Sarawak Director of Prosecution.
