KAPIT: The Kapit Dayak Cultural Festival (KDCF) has been recommended to be included in the annual Sarawak Tourism calendar in the future.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also the Kapit MP, said that the KDCF which is held every year is a starting point towards efforts to dignify cultural treasures and promote the Dayak community’s “main asal”/ original play culture to the international stage.

“From Kuala Lumpur, I went Kapit last night, to both celebrate and support the programme organised by the Kapit District Office in collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Kapit is hosting a vibrant and diverse range of programmes from May 5 to 28, creating a lively and colourful atmosphere.

“Among the traditional programmes that are being focus on are berpantun, beramban, bertoh, ngajat, pekit kumang and many more,” he said in his Facebook post yesterday.

He also said that the implementation of KDCF was very conducive in promoting Kapit as a tourist destination.

“Therefore, I would also like to recommend that the festival be included in the annual Sarawak tourism calendar in the future,” he added.
