SIBU: The repair work on the roof of Majid Al-Muhajirin in Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Salim, is scheduled to start soon.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said that he will hold discussions with the authorities to ensure that the work begins as quickly as possible.

“I will talk to the Public Works Department (PWD) or the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), which are the organisations responsible for implementing the repairs, so that we can start as soon as possible,” he said to reporters at the ‘Majlis Ibadah Korban’ held at Masjid Al-Muhajirin today (July 1).

Chieng explained that he has allocated funds from the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to support the mosque’s request for roof repair.

“Every year, I allocate funds for mosques, churches, temples, and other places of worship for improvement and minor repairs,” he added.

Chieng also mentioned that Nangka Assemblyman Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee will contribute funds for the roof repair of the mosque.

During the ceremony, Chieng donated a cow to the mosque, and the meat will be distributed to those in need in the village.

Also present at the event were Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon, mosque chairman Ramli Hussin.
