SIBU: In the early hours of Tuesday (Aug 1), a 46-year-old man, identified as Pang Neng Hua, was shot dead in his family orchard, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here.
Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated that police were alerted to the incident at 1.23am by a member of the public.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital by his two friends and family, but was pronounced dead at 1.55am,” ACP Zulkipli told the media.
According to investigations, the victim and his two friends, aged 46 and 36, went to the orchard to eat at around 9.30pm on July 31.
“At about 11.30pm, as they were leaving and one of the victim’s friends was locking the gate, a suspect approached and fired several shots.
“The victim’s two friends managed to run and hide. They emerged from their hiding place after 30 minutes and found the victim lying on the ground.”
The examinations revealed that the victim had sustained eight gunshot wounds, while one of his friends had a minor injury on his face.
When asked whether the victim was the leader of a gang called ‘Lo Han’, ACP Zulkipli said that the matter is still under investigation.
“The motive behind the shooting and the type of gun used are also being looked into. We advise the public not to speculate on the case.”
The police are treating the case as murder and are investigating under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
