KUCHING: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak extends a warm welcome to Datuk Dr. Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen, who has taken over the position of Chairman of the Board of Management.
Dr. Abang Abdul Rauf said that recently he was appointed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to assume this role.
“I was appointed by our Premier himself, to step into this position. Although I had planned to retire, I will happily continue to serve while I am still healthy,” he said during a press conference at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak yesterday (September 1).
He also highlighted that the state library needs to address the challenge posed by society’s decreasing interest in visiting libraries to borrow physical books due to the rise of digital resources.

“As part of our Premier’s vision to keep pace with the digital world, I have been entrusted with the task of ensuring the state library not only meets its current goals but exceeds them significantly,” he said.
He added that the library must adapt creatively and innovatively to reach people as our environment changes.
On the same note, heartfelt gratitude was extended to the former chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure since the year 2000.
Dr Abang Abdul Rauf previously led the Housing Development Corporation Sarawak (HDC) for 13 years.
