LUNDU: Sarawak has the potential to be a leading investment destination in Malaysia.

Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman, Chong Chieng Jen, said that the Sarawak government should tap into the state’s rich renewable energy sources to attract foreign investors.

Chong said that promoting these resources can boost the local industry, leading to job creation and increased income for Sarawakians.

“With our renewable energy, why not make it an attraction for investors? If we do this, we can build more industries and factories, creating more job opportunities and raising incomes,” he said during the launching of the Mas Gading Parliamentary Service Centre Lundu branch today.

He stressed the importance of the Sarawak government in paving the way for high-tech industries. Chong added, “Both the state and federal governments should see Sarawak as a top investment spot in Malaysia.”

Moreover, as Stampin MP, Chong pointed out that global companies are in search of clean energy, like hydropower – a strength of Sarawak.

“As more companies aim for zero carbon emissions, clean energy’s value is skyrocketing worldwide. Sarawak has this resource, so how should we use it to our advantage?” Chong questioned.

He was concerned over merely selling the energy at high rates, fearing it might discourage investors. Instead, Chong suggested that a clear plan is needed to ensure both revenue for the state and benefits for the people.
