Blaze claims seven luxury cars, one salvaged

KUCHING: Only one of the eight luxury cars parked in an auto repair shop at Jalan Pahlawan, Bintawa, here was salvaged from a devastating blaze this morning.

Four cars — a Volkswagen, a BMW, a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi — were destroyed.

Two Mercedes-Benz and a BMW were partially damaged. However, one car, a Volkswagen was not affected by the fire.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 4.50 am.

Upon arrival, they wasted no time in going about their task to put out the raging flames and brought the fire under control at 5.28 am.

No structural damages were reported and the team went to the premises nearby to ensure that the fire did not spread.

The firefighters completed their operation at 6.49 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are yet to be ascertained.
