KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) urges the public to avoid open burning activities, as such actions not only harm the environment but also pose risks to human health.

Open burning, leading to air pollution and haze, constitutes an offense under Section 29A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 with penalties of up to RM500,000 in fines or up to five years in prison upon conviction.

With the approaching dry season, the department emphasises that fire safety starts with individual responsibility.

Additionally, the public is encouraged to monitor environmental conditions through apps like MyIPU, myCuaca, and iHydro.

To report any fires, please call 999 or the nearest Bomba station immediately.
