BAU: Police arrested a local man for allegedly stealing electric cables from a fish farm in Siniawan on Tuesday (Mar 5).
According to Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas, the incident happened around 8.50 am when the owner observed the suspect leaving a farmhouse with electric cables and a sharp object.
“Prior to spotting the suspect, the owner claimed that the metal chains used to lock the main gate had been cut.
“Additionally, two sacks containing electrical cables were discovered at the farm’s driveway.
“Once the owner noticed the suspect exiting the farmhouse, he quickly contacted the police,” she told New Sarawak Tribune last night (Mar 6).
Acting on information, an ‘Ops Lejang’ team swiftly arrested the 25-year-old suspect around 09.30 am and seized two sacks of electrical cables along with tools for stealing.
They also confiscated a machete and a motorcycle belonging to the suspect.
Jawai added that the cables found in the sacks were identified to be used to generate electricity for the fish pond’s turbines.
The suspect, who did not have any prior records, will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries imprisonment up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
She said investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect’s accomplice and appealed to those who have information related to the case to report them to the investigating officer Sgt Patrick Mail at 013-6044757.
