MIRI: Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting has stepped in to assist a homeless man in his 70s who is almost completely blind.

Despite not meeting the minimum criteria for assistance from local welfare services, Ting prioritised Amin’s immediate needs, ensuring he received the care and attention he desperately required.

Amin, who has been living on the streets for months, relies on kind-hearted strangers for food and drink.
He has been navigating his way around the city almost entirely by touch due to his severe visual impairment.

His plight has been exacerbated by the slow response from the Welfare Department, which has yet to provide substantial help despite repeated requests.

In a decisive move, Ting coordinated with a team from Miri Hospital, who have since taken Amin in for comprehensive health and eye examinations.

The goal is to potentially save Amin’s remaining eyesight and address his overall health concerns.

This intervention came as a relief to many in the community who have been advocating for Amin’s welfare.

In addition to arranging medical care, the assemblyman’s office is also working diligently to sort out Amin’s personal details, as he currently has no identification documents.
Thanks to Ting’s intervention, Amin now has a proper bed, bath, and toilet facilities at the hospital.
