KUCHING: The media industry thrives on a multitude of voices, stories and perspectives, ensuring that the narratives shared are rich, balanced and reflective of the world society live in, says Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib.

The Cahya Mata  Sarawak  Bhd (CMS) group managing director added that the commonalities between Cahya Mata and the media run deep.

“We are both agents of change and development as wee build bridges, some literal, some metaphorical that connect people, ideas and opportunities.

“We both operate with a commitment to integrity, transparency and serving the greater good. In celebrating diversity, we acknowledge that our varied experiences and backgrounds empower us to make a meaningful impact and to contribute positively to society.

“Allow me to conclude with a quote from Winston Churchill that I believe encapsulates our shared ethos – ‘Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Celebrate it every day’.”

Sulaiman said this during the Cahya Mata Media Night at Sheraton Hotel Kuching on Monday (Dec 9), featuring the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity’.

Reflecting on the journey of CMS from inception in 1974 as Cement Manufacturing Sarawak to becoming a dynamic multinational corporation, he said that one thing remains constant was the commitment to excellence and innovation.

“This growth would not have been possible without the media’s role in sharing our story with the world, bringing transparency and fostering trust within the communities we serve.

“Tonight, we celebrate not just an event but the enduring partnership between Cahya Mata and the media, a journey we have embarked upon together over the past five decades.”

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed members of the Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad board of directors, senior management team and members of the press.

It also saw a strong turnout from the media, with 124 representatives from 25 media agencies in attendance.
