MIRI: The 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD 20) celebrated its 48th anniversary today with a grand parade, highlighting its enduring commitment to safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty and its contributions to national development.
The commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Izwan Ramli, used the occasion to remind his team of the importance of vigilance in the face of increasingly complex and multidimensional security challenges.

Speaking at the event, he emphasised the need to remain alert despite the current peace and harmony enjoyed by the nation.
“While we enjoy the tranquility of today, we must not become complacent or negligent given the uncertainties of the current security landscape,” he said.
He also urged his personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity to preserve the reputation of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
“In our pursuit of excellence, we cannot allow any actions that violate the rules or tarnish the team’s image. Such behaviour undermines the authority and respect for the armed forces as a whole.”
The parade, led by Major Norshahidin Long, featured 183 personnel and 14 officers carrying the RAMD 20’s military pennant. The ceremony commenced promptly at 8 am.
Established on January 1, 1977 at Camp Desa Pahlawan, the battalion has relocated several times over the years.
It was stationed at Senawang Camp, Negeri Sembilan, before finally settling in Miri on December 9, 1999.
Over the decades, the 20th Battalion has demonstrated excellence in operational, training, and humanitarian efforts.
The unit has consistently played a vital role in national security, remaining on standby for rapid deployment and assisting civil authorities during natural disasters. Additionally, the team has been instrumental in implementing the Jiwa Murni programme, contributing to the wellbeing of local communities.
As the battalion reflects on its achievements, Mohd Izwan reaffirmed the team’s unwavering commitment to its mandate despite the challenges ahead.
“Our duty is clear – to uphold the sovereignty of our nation and be ever ready to face any task entrusted to us,” he concluded.
