KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is much relieved that the construction of two major projects in the Betong Division are progressing well.

He was truly pleased with the current progress of the Bebuling STOLport and the Sungai Paku Bridge and are on track to successful completion.

“The contractors had faced some but minor issues. But from the briefings that I have been given, I am sure they can get over them for these projects to be completed as schedule,” he said in a statement.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, on Tuesday (Jan 22) attended briefings on the two projects plus two other main road projects in the division during a visit to the Betong Division Public Works Department( JKR) office.

The RM296 million Bebuling STOLport is slightly ahead of its schedule.

With its terminal building completed, works are now focussed on the installation of airport system, the airside civil works( comprising the runway and taxiway) and the landside civil work( carpark and the main access road, with its schedule for completion by August this year.

On the 107m span steel arch Sungai Paku Bridge at Tanjung Sebekut in Spaoh, Uggah said it too was scheduled for completion by August this year.

However, he hoped the contractor could complete it sometime before or by June year.

“This would make this year Gawai Dayak a more special ocassion for local folks,” he said.

The RM36.9 million bridge is now 48.65 per cent done against its schedule of 48.37 per cent.

The full delivery of its off-site fabricated components from its Sejingkat factory is expected to arrive for installation at the site by this month.

Uggah was accompanied by Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, Betong Resident Richard Micheal Abunawas, Divisional Public Works Department (PWD) engineer Jason Ng and other dignitaries at the briefings given by representatives of the contractors.
