KUCHING: Preparations for the upcoming Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting were among the matters discussed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor here today (Aug 23).

Anwar said he met Abang Johari and Hajiji over breakfast in Bandar Seri Begawan, where they discussed preparations for the MA63 meeting, which is expected to take place in Kota Kinabalu in the coming weeks.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the three leaders also exchanged views on several current developments and efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government, Sarawak and Sabah.

“We also exchanged views on several current developments, while focusing on efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government, Sarawak and Sabah for the well-being of the people and more equitable and balanced development,” he said.

Anwar also gave an assurance that ties between the Federal Government and the two Bornean states would continue to be strengthened.

“Insya-Allah, the close relationship between the Federal Government under my leadership and the Sarawak and Sabah governments will continue to be strengthened on the basis of mutual respect and trust,” he said.

Abang Johari and Hajiji are also part of the Malaysian delegation for the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27).

During ALC-27, Malaysia and Brunei agreed in principle to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries, including efforts to address immigration-related matters.

Technical committees at the federal level, in cooperation with Sarawak and Sabah, have also been tasked with expediting the relevant discussions.

Anwar arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan on Friday for a two-day working visit in conjunction with ALC-27.
