The aftermath of the fire that damaged the ceiling and walls of a house in Kampung Tungkah Melayu.

SIMUNJAN: Swift actions by residents managed to prevent a house from being burned down in Kampung Tungkah Melayu today (Jan 27).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 6 am incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Simunjan station were dispatched to the scene, about 44km away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found the fire, causing 30 per cent damage to the ceiling and walls, had already been doused off by residents using pipe water.

The team took over the scene to carry out overhaul works to ensure there is no risk of reignition.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 7 am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
